How to Raise Chicken for Beginners

If you intend to Raise chickens, through this simple article we will learn together, how the stages of raising chickens are needed, what the obstacles are that must be faced so that you will prepare everything as good as possible, so that the results you get can be.

Basically, the way to raise chickens can be divided into three, namely traditional method , the semi-intensive method and the last one in intensive way. Traditional method is a method that is widely used by rural communities who do not have enough land. This method does not need a lot of capitals to buy feed because once the chickens are released from the cage in the morning, the chickens will be left to find their food and usually just returned to the owner when afternoon to rest. This method is very suitable for small-scale breeders, which is only for family consumption.

The second way is semi intensive. This method is to let the chickens roam but in a limited area. For example in a house yard that is given a fence, so that the chickens cannot get out of the area. Feeding in this semi-intensive system can be done 2-3 times a day. This method is suitable for medium to large scale breeders, but also must pay attention to area which is owned. The latter is intensive system. Intensive system is a modern maintenance system through the aspect of technological and scientific development, with full control of environmental factors with detailed management calculation. This method is usually used by large-scale breeders who must meet the needs of the market and industry.
You already know about how to raise chickens which are divided into three. Now is the time to prepare everything, so that the farm you have can work well.

A. Prepare the Cage

For those of you who wants to start raising, including chickens, the first thing to consider is the preparation of the cage. A cage is an absolute must have. The cage serves as a resting place for your chickens, a place of revive from heat and rain, and predators. For the cage, you can make it from wood and bamboo.

The coop for chicken does not have to be luxurious. The most important thing is that it does not leak when it rains, it can protect the chickens from the hot sun and also cold night air. Especially for newly hatched chicks, a cage that is tight and given a light must be made, because newly hatched chickens are very vulnerable to cold air. Try to keep the pen always getting sunlight, because sunlight can kill bacteria and viruses that can cause disease in your livestock.
The position of the coop must also be considered. The minimum distance from the place of residence is 10 meters. This is to avoid unpleasant odors produced by chicken manure that may arise.

B. Setting Up a Play Area for Chickens

If you want to raise chickens semi-intensively, in addition to the cage that has to be prepared, you also have to think about a place for the chickens to do activities throughout the day after leaving the cage. For those of you who lives in villages and have enough land, maybe this semi-intensive farming method is a perfect for you.

You can take advantage of existing land, for example, the yard of a house. Install a fence of wire or bamboo with a height of 1.5 – 2 meters in the area. These aims to keep the chickens from leaving the area and also to prevent from other people's chickens entering your yard. Thus, disease transmission that occurs in chickens can be minimized. Besides that, the risk of losing is also very small because as an owner you are easy to monitor.

C. Choose Superior Seeds

One of the factors that influences the success or failure of breeding is being observant in selecting seeds. Good seeds will produce good offspring too. The characteristics of a good chicken for prospective brood stock include a straight posture, shiny feathers, good appetite and no defects. For males, it is also important to note. Try to choose a male that must be large, sturdy, shiny fur, and also not defective.

D. Take Care of The Chicken

Caring for chickens for some people are a fun activity and can provide entertainment. In caring for chickens it really takes patience and tenacity. So that your chickens quickly grow big and healthy, the important thing that must always be considered is feeding.

Give your chickens a diet rich in protein and vitamins. Feeding the chickens must also be regular. In the morning you can feed between 7 to 9 o'clock. During the day give feed between 12 to 1 o'clock, and in the afternoon you can feed between 4 to 5 in the afternoon.

Tips :

— For a feed chickens you can mix several ingredients including bran, green vegetables and dry rice which have been previously soaked in hot water. Mix the three ingredients together, plus water to mix the three ingredients as needed.

Previously, cut the vegetables into small pieces, boil them briefly with boiling water, this is so that your chicken will have no trouble swallowing the food you provide.

— Water must always be available in the drinking area, change drinking water every day, and wash the drinking area using soap and warm water to kill the bacteria lodged in the drinking area, so that the health of the chickens is maintained.

— Never give stale or moldy food to your chickens, because this can damage the health of your livestock. Stale or moldy food is a source of bad bacteria, so avoid giving this food to your chickens.

— Don, 't forget to give vaccines regularly at least every six months. This is so that your chickens are not susceptible to disease.

— Always keep the cage clean. Things that seem trivial, but have a big enough effect on the health and development of your chickens. Clean every day the chicken manure in the cage. Try to keep the cage dry and not damp, and adjust ventilation so that air circulation in the cage remains. Don, 't forget to spray disinfectant on the cage, at least once a month to kill bacteria and other small animals that can interfere with the health of your chickens.

— Be alert when the season changes. Usually at this time chickens are prone to disease.
But you don, 't need to worry, to fix it you only need ginger. The way is to take enough ginger, wash it thoroughly then mash it using a stone or whatever as long as it is clean.keep in mind that the time to grind the ginger is not too smooth because it is not easily digested by the chicken, so the effect can last a long time. If your chicken catches the flu during the changing seasons, give it crushed ginger 2 to three times a day.

— You can add papaya leaves to the chicken menu. Papaya leaves function as an appetite enhancer in chickens. In addition, papaya leaves can also kill worms in chickens because of they are bitter taste.

— So that the chickens quickly grow big and healthy, you can add brown rice, fish flour and milled corn as a feed mixture

E. Help Breed Chicken

Chickens will usually mate naturally when they are grown. You should know the characteristics of a mature female that is ready to mate. Usually a mature female that is ready to mate will emit a distinctive croaking sound, and it will not reject every male that comes to it. After the male and female has mated, a few days later the female will begin laying eggs.

Before the laying eggs usually hens will show strange behavior, one of which is restless and always looking for a higher place.

All you have to do if your chickens are like this is to quickly create a place so that your chickens can lay eggs later. You can make a place for chicken eggs using straw or a soft layer of cloth.

Try to make the spawning place comfortable to use, and put it in a place that is higher than the surrounding environment. These aims to make chicken feel calm when laying eggs and avoid eggs from other chickens or predators.

After a few days of laying eggs, the hens will start to incubate. Usually in incubation, the chicken takes 21-23 days for the eggs to hatch. During the brood period, the hen spends a lot of time in the coop and only occasionally goes out to eat or drink. That is why you should pay more attention to the condition of the hen when brooding. All you have to do is provide food and water, put it near where it incubates so that the chickens no longer bother going out of the cage. After approximately 21 days, the awaited moment arrived. You will see what was once the egg has now turned into a cute chick. But resist your urge to touch it. Because, in addition to being vulnerable, you are also at the risk of getting punctured from the hen. All you have to do is prepare a place for the chicks later.
For a place for newly hatched chicks, you can make it from cardboard. Don, 't forget to give a light and a soft base to the cardboard.
The lamp serves as both lighting and heating at night, while the soft base will make the chicks feel comfortable.

The cage for the DOC must be tightly closed and given a light to keep the temperature in the cage warm.

Tips :
— So that your chickens reproduce quickly, it is best to separate the newly hatched chicks from their mothers early.

— Separation should be done between 6-12 hours after hatching and should not separate chicks more than 1 day after hatching because if it exceeds, one day, the chicks will become stressed and noisy because of the chicks already know and memorize their mother.

For newly hatched chicken food, you are advised to give small pellets. Also, give drinking water that has been mixed with vitamins, so that, your chickens will grow big quickly and have a good weight.

Giving pellets will take about one to two months, depending on the type of chicken you raise. If your chicks are more than two months old, you can provide combination feed. You can mix the pellets with a little bran or leftover rice, and add some green vegetables too.

That was the simple article on how to raise chicken for beginners.
After you read the brief description earlier, I hope you can find inspiration to start a business, one of which is by raising chickens. Whatever your effort, if it is managed seriously, it will certainly get maximum results. Hopefully useful.
