How to Make Fermented Banana Stalks for Chicken Feed

Roma Bardo September 16, 2020 0

Fermentation is a metabolic process that produces chemical changes in organic substrates through the action of enzymes. In biochemistry, it is narrowly defined as the extraction of energy from carbohydrates in the absence of oxygen. In the context of food production, it may more broadly refer to any process in which the activity of microorganisms brings about a desirable change to a foodstuff or beverage. The science of fermentation is known as etymology.

Bananas are plants that can easily be found around us. Besides the fruit that we can consume and can be used as snack products, we can also use banana leaves as an inexpensive and environmentally friendly food wrapper. Besides the fruit, and leaves that we can use, we can actually use the stems. People usually use banana stalks for various purposes. Banana stems can be used as an organic fertilizer that fertilizes the soil, as a medium for earthworms, and also for black soldier fly (BSF).

Banana stalks also have other benefits that are no less important. If you are a breeder and often complain about the expensive factory a stalks might be an alternative for your chickens feed. Banana stalks can be used as a mixture of bran which of course can make your chicken big fast and have a good weight. The processing method is actually quite simple.
Here we will process banana stems in two ways. The first way is a by boiling, while the second way is through the fermentation process. For those of you who wants to know the process, you should read this simple article until it's finished.

How to process banana stems by boiling

This method of processing banana stalks by boiling is indeed quite simple, and does not take much time. This method is the same as when we processed leaves as alternative feed for chickens in the previous article.

banana stems that have been cut into small pieces.

In this process, what you need to do is to prepare enough fresh banana stalks.first peel the outer skin using a knife. We have to remove the outer shell because it is usually too dirty and also has a lot of dry fiber which can interfere with the digestion of the chicken. After we get the inner stems that are still green, the next step is to peel them off one by one. The next step is to cut it thinly from top to bottom until it is shaped like a stick.

Collect the stick-shaped pieces, then cut them again into smaller pieces, so they are shaped like cubes. The last step is to boil the banana stem pieces until soft, then remove and let cool. Now the boiled banana stalk is ready to be mixed with the bran or remaining rice to be given to your livestock.

Processing banana stems by fermentation

You already know how to process a banana stem by boiling it.
now is the time for us to learn together how to ferment banana stalks as an alternative to chicken feed. But before we go any further we should know what is meant by fermentation?
Fermentation is a metabolic process that produces chemical changes in organic substrates through the action of enzymes. In biochemistry, it is narrowly defined as the extraction of energy from carbohydrates in the absence of oxygen. In the context of food production, it may more broadly refer to any process in which the activity of microorganisms brings about a desirable change to a foodstuff or beverage. The science of fermentation is known as etymology. That's the short definition of fermentation. Now is the time we will try processing banana stalks by fermentation.
But for the results we need use 1 for two days for maximum results, so, we cannot immediately give it as chicken feed as in processing it using the boiling method.
Okay, let's just prepare the ingredients.

a fermented drink that you can use if you don't have em4.
  • Banana stem to taste.
  • Bucket and lid, because the fermentation process requires an airtight space.
  • EM4 specifically for farms, usually brown in the packaging bottle. You can buy it at a specialty farm shop. If not available you can use molasses juice. If not available, you can use brown sugar plus rice washing water. You can also use fermented drinks.
  • Enough well water. Try to use ground water or rainwater, not water that contains chlorine.
Manufacturing steps
  • Cut banana stalks like the article above, don, 't forget to remove the outer shell first.
  • Take enough water, pour 3-5 EM4 caps or a small bottle of fermented drink into the water, stirring until evenly distributed.
  • Enter the banana stem pieces into the water that has been mixed with EM4 or the fermented drink that you have prepared.
  • Stir until evenly. Try not to water too much, so the result is crumbing. If there is still too much water, you can add more pieces of the banana stem.
  • Put the banana stem dough into the bucket, not too full to fill it. Leave a little room for air. The last step tightly close the bucket.
  • Wait 1 for two days. Successful fermentation is marked with a fragrant smell like cassava fermented and is not overgrown with mold. If the fermentation dough smells bad and overgrown with mushrooms, then it is confirmed that the fermentation is unsuccessful or failed, and you should throw away. Successful fermentation of banana stalks is also marked with changing the color of the banana stem pieces to chocolate.
That's a simple article on how to process banana stalks by boiling, and also by fermentation.
After you read and understand, you can immediately practice it as alternative feed for your chicken, and your poultry, so, you can reduce feed costs even more. Hopefully useful and keep up the spirit.
